Message from the Associate Chair for Research
Faculty in the Department of Pediatrics are the main drivers for pediatric research, teaching, and service in the College of Medicine at the University of Florida. We are also joined by faculty in many other departments and colleges in research studies with a high impact on the health of infants, children, and adolescents.
During the past years, we have witnessed the continued growth and expansion of our clinical, educational, research, and service missions, working in sync with the strategic goals of the College of Medicine and University. Our department has been central to several of the top priorities for the university-wide strategic plan; including, neuroscience, genetics, cancer, and life-course research.
The Department is committed to fostering innovation and advancing discovery in the biomedical and psychosocial aspects of child health and human development, to educating and training Pediatric scientists, and to directly translating basic scientific discoveries into new patient-oriented therapies.
Our faculty work in multidisciplinary teams with researchers in the five other Health Science Center colleges, as well as those from across the University. The focus of team efforts is often grown out of our Centers and Institutes, including the Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute, the UF Genetics Institute, the Powell Gene Therapy Center, and the UF&Shands Cancer Center.
