Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)
The newly created the CTSI Academy of Research Excellence is accepting applications for the academy’s first program, which will lead to a Master Certification for Excellence in Human Subject Research and Protections, as well as membership in the academy. This advanced six-month program is intended for UF clinical investigators working with human subjects. One-page applications are due by Friday, March 16 and the inaugural cohort will begin in April 2012.
The six-month program is focusing on regulatory requirements, informed consent training, practical aspects of running a research enterprise, and research integrity and professionalism. The program consists of six one-hour lectures (available online) and six participatory seminars, including informed consent training using simulated research subjects. The primary benefit of successfully completing the Master Certification will be the knowledge and skills acquired that will lead to submission of high-quality human-subject research projects that anticipate and successfully address potential regulatory and consent issues.)
Women in Medicine Program
A major goal of the program is to foster the career development of female scholars as women comprise the majority of current pediatric trainees. To provide specific guidance for women in academic environment, the Association for Academic Women at UF and the Office of Diversity and Health Equity sponsor a number of activities every year. The lecture series and networking meetings increase the visibility of women in medicine, provide the University of Florida medical community access to notable speakers, and create a forum to discuss issues relevant to women.
Advanced Leadership for Academics and Professionals
Advanced Leadership for Academics and Professionals (ALAP) is a program designed for faculty and professionals in leadership positions at our institution as a way to support their ongoing development. Emphasis is placed on exploring the UF Leadership/Management Competency structure and how it can be applied effectively to support leadership in our higher education setting.
The program lasts over the course of the year (participants meet 6 times, 1 to 2 days each time) and includes 360-degree and other assessments, guest speakers, facilitated discussions, case studies, assigned readings, and activities, including group project(s). An important element of the program is access to key leaders at UF.
